Remember The Goodness of God

7 then you shall say to them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall become a memorial for Israel forever.” - Joshua 4:7 Amplified Bible

When the Israelites entered the promised Land, God instructed Joshua to have them place twelve stones as a forever reminder that He had stopped the waters of the Jordan so they could cross over safely. This was not the only time people honored God by building a memorial with stones in remembrance of what God did. In Genesis 35:14, it says, "Jacob set up a stone pillar at the place where God had talked with him, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it." Also, in 1 Samuel 7:12, it tells us, "Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer,[a] saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”" Likewise, we need stones of remembrance in our lives. While our stones may not be actual stones, but by thinking back on specific times when God has blessed us can serve as spiritual markers in our lives. Doing this will assist us in recalling His goodness and will ultimately serve to increase our faith. These spiritual markers help us to have the confidence knowing that, if God provided for us before, then He can be counted on to do so again.

Question to ponder: How are you frequently reminded of God's goodness?
