Just The Simple Things

And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour,
it is the gift of God.
Ecclesiastes 3:13 KJV

Solomon had already written in Ecclesiastes that there's no real meaning to be found in the things people chase after in this life. He found these things to be futile, a pursuit of The wind, vanity and foolishness. In Ecclesiastes 1:14, he says, "I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind." Instead of being in the rat race, he wisely wrote that we should be content with the simple things in which God blesses us. Often, the most cherished pleasures in life are those that are the most simple and the fruits from our labor are the results that make life worth living. Like a home cooked meal with your loved ones, cooking on the grill, or just sitting on the porch enjoying a nice spring day are all examples of simple, yet wonderful, gifts from God who is the giver of every good gift. When we can just appreciate the simple things of life, that is what makes our lives richer and it increases our humility, thankfulness and contentment. Isn't it ironic that the more time we spend enjoying the simple things in life, the more we will realize that these things are actually the most remarkable gifts from God?
